Shooting shadows can be quite tricky. But Shadows make some very interesting images. Shadows are good Photo subjects. They can also be very effective distractions-another good reason to pay attention to them when shooting. Also the Shadow areas are more prone to grains. Some times the grains add to an image while at other times they are very distracting.

Lets have a quick view of the winners of the shadow photography.

Congratulation Winners !!

Winners for the Best Picture of the day series are:

Shadow Art

By: Roshni Chandran

Comments: This is an incredible image Roshni. I like the way you have filed your frame with the shadows. There is an interesting pattern of diagonal lines In the background. Also the hand at the top right has a charming body language. It’s placed in the thirds too. Hence making an interesting composition. Also the wheel like pattern looks visually pleasing. However I do notice the grains in the hands. Try getting rid of them in photoshop. You can also avoid grains by shooting at the lowest possible ISO that your camera offers.
Good show Roshni !!

“The hollowman…

By: Prasad Balgi

Comments: That’s a very Interesting concept Prasad.  I like the way you have created the mystery element of the man missing in reality but still present on the bike. I like the warm tones that you have used in your image. Also there is one thing that you can improvise: try taking a looser frames and then do the necessary cropping. In your image you have cropped the tires of the shadow and you should leave some space before the real bike. It just gives a neater frame. But other than that it’s a good effort !!
Nice Concept Prasad !!

” F.R.I.E.N.D.S”

By: Sriram Krishnan

Comments: LOL…Frinds do that a lot Sriram.  It’s a common image of extraordinary emotions. I liked the fact you have filled in your frame quite well.  The shadows look deep and nice.  I even like the tiles that serve as the background for this image.
Nice catch Sriram !!!

Shelter Among Shadows

By: Vrishali Parke

Comments: I like the play of Light and shade in this image.  This place has a nice feel to it.  I like the fact that multiple cushions have been placed randomly. You can try deepening the shadows by using the curves on photoshop to achieve the same.
Nice observation !!!

By: Jainik Dave

Comments: This image has a an eerie feel to it. I Like the leaves and the mans shadow that is filling your frame very well. The texture on the wall is incredible. Also you really need to increase the contrast p. Your shadow needs to look deeper. you can try to use some filters to enhance the feel of THIS image.
Great attempt  Jainik !!!

Thanks! happy to know my photograph made it to the winner’s list.
Congrats to all winners and everyone participated in the contest.

The background for this image is my patio floor, and the diagonal lines are the shadows formed by patio rails in sunlight, the object in hand is a table coaster and the grains you see all through the frame are the rough floor pattern.
Appreciate your suggestion for post processing as i feel the grains on the hands are indeed distracting.

Thanks again, you guys are doing an awesome job with the site and i’m glad to be part of this group.
