Light painting is a term that often associated with the creation of light trails in an image, however there is a totally different type of light painting that offers the landscape photographer unprecedented levels of creativity. Here are few pointer that will help you take better light painting photography.
Equipment:
- Tripod – To keep your camera steady, or at the very least, a flat surface such as a fence post or a table
- Camera – Which can be set to take long manual exposure photos e.g: 10-30 seconds or more.
- Lights – Torches, key chain lights, sparklers … as long as you can move the light/s around to create the effect you want.
- Camera Settings – Long Shutter Speed, Low ISO, Flash, White Balance, Focus, Aperture
Process:
- Find a very dark area with different colored light sources and reflections of the same light sources. Reflections of the main lights in water are often ideal. The reflected light will be much dimmer and allow you to fill in some of the background with a softer darker color.
- Rainy nights are often perfect for light painting photography as you now have colored lights from the street, shops and other sources along with reflected light in the water on the road.
- Neon lights can be really fun to play with. Because they are very bright, they may require fast movement.

Light me up
By:Cholena Nashan
Comment: This is a visual treat to my eye and I have colors of light that has been used to paint the flower petal. Green and blue complement each other. The idea seems to be very original and has been put up in a creative manner. The sun flower looks extremely pretty. However the smaller flower could have more details in them but over all d picture as a whole looks more interesting and unique.
Comment: The picture as a whole looks incredible. To paint a 3D box much require painting skills n looking at the picture I am sure u have them. The color chosen for painting light looks quite apt n visually interesting. However the lower a little more room space should have been left at the bottom of the frame but other than that a very good effort.
Christ

Comment: The picture looks very engaging because of the way the eye is painted. I love d fact that you have left the space in the direction of the Christ. Also a very important thing that I observed was that there r good amount of details in d frame, however you could have left more head space on d top of the frame. Please avoid copy write mark on the image but other than that the artistic feel is really nice. Keep up the good work
