Michele Palazzi has been named the 2013 winner of the CIWEM
Italian photographer Michele Palazzi has been named the 2013 winner of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management’s Environmental Photographer of the Year Award (CIWEM) for an image shot in the Gob desert of Mongolia. The Rome-based photographer, Michele Palazzi wins £5000 after his image’ Gone with the Dust , was selected from more than 3000 entries at this year’s CIWEM’s Environmental Photographer of the Year Award.While photographer Eleanor Bennett won the Young Environmental Photographer of the Year (under 18) Award of £1000, while the Environmental Video of the Year Award of £1000 was awarded to Jonathan Goldberg for ‘Shaking the Tree’, which shows how one man inspired an army of fruit harvesters in his local community.
The 3000 entries were judged on impact, composition, originality and technical ability by the 2013 jury, comprising of Nick Reeves, executive director of CIWEM; Nick Roberts, Atkins strategy director; Dr David Haley HonFCIWEM, senior research fellow at MIRIAD Manchester Metropolitan University; and award winning documentary photographer, Adam Hinton.
