A new international photography competition for professional photographers, photographic designers, photographic artists and emerging photographic talent has been launched. It is being run by Osnabrück-based manufacturer of specialty papers Felix Schoeller Holding GmbH & Co. KG, who will award prizes worth a total of €25,000. This is one of the richest photography prizes in the German-speaking world. Young photographers aged 24 and under, as well as photography students of any age, have until 01 August, 2013 to enter this year’s Ian Parry Scholarship, which is worth £3500. Created by Aidan Sullivan, the Ian Parry Scholarship is dedicated to 24-year-old photojournalist, Ian Parry, who died while on assignment for ‘The Sunday Times’, during the Romanian revolution in 1989. The Art of Photography Show is an established and critical force in the world of contemporary photography. Now in its 9th year, this well thought out international exhibition provides value to artists at every turn, from first-rate viewing in the judging process to publication opportunities, well-attended events and lectures, photo industry connections and substantial monetary awards.
The World Photography Organization announced the names of the winners for the Open, Youth, and 3D Award categories of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. Representing the best single images in the competition’s ten categories, the winning images span countries as far apart as Chile to Vietnam and capture a range of subjects from the moment before a couple get married to the Mangystau night sky in Kazakhstan, and the ‘Fung Shun’ fire dragon dance in Southern China. These ten winning photographers will now compete for the Sony World Photography Awards Open Photographer of the Year title, which will be revealed at a gala ceremony on 25th April, 2013 in London.
